We at Seneca Lake Guardian have been breaking our backs for months now to protect Seneca Lake, your clean air, your agricultural crops, your vibrant tourism driven economy, the climate, your way of life, and your drinking water from the most threatening industry since fracking.

We have organized a rally at the DEC Headquarters in Avon, NY for this coming Saturday, June 5th. We have international (Italy, Germany, France, Japan, China) and national (NBC Nightly News, CBS News, Now This News) coming to film this event. If we have a small crowd, this will be a total flop.

We know you all have busy lives. We do too. But we are asking you to spend a few hours to SHOW UP on Saturday. WE NEED YOU TO DO THIS ONE THING.

We are paying for a bus that you can hop on. We're buying wine for the ride home.

Please, we work so hard for you and it is time for you to stand up and show up.

We have a FREE 56 passenger bus for people to hop on.

First pick up spot is the Walmart Parking Lot in Watkins Glen (515 E 4th St, Watkins Glen) at about 11:30 am, making a stop to pick others up at Abtex (89 Main Street, Dresden) at 12:00, making another stop at Denny's (813 Canandaigua Rd, Geneva, NY) in Geneva at 12:15, and onward to the DEC Headquarters in Avon NY to arrive by 1:30 pm and depart by no later than 4:00 pm, taking the same return route to drop people off, with an estimated finish time of no later than 5:30 pm.

Greenidge Bitcoin Mining

Greenidge is an old coal power plant with an already bad environmental history. Once mothballed, it was converted to a gas fired plant for use as a “peaker plant”- to only be used when excess energy was needed by the public, and not run continually. Now, its out of state owners at Atlas Holdings want to expand operations for a privately owned bitcoin operation which would consume enough power to fuel 93,000 homes. That’s bigger than 2 of Amazon’s immense data centers. This facility threatens the health of our air, our water, and the Finger Lakes’ thriving agricultural and tourism-driven economy.

Greenidge Generation LLC is a natural gas power plant that's mining cryptocurrency on an industrial scale, and Greenidge aims to expand its operations in a small, rural town in the heart of the Finger Lakes, situated on the west side of Seneca Lake. They are also using Seneca Lake for plant cooling, affecting the temperature of the lake, fish viability, and surrounding ecology.

Greenidge has recently announced that it wishes to expand operations to other undisclosed locations.

Join us at the rally to stop this private Bitcoin operation from burning more fossil fuels and emitting more GHGs in a community that depends on fresh air and clean water for our personal health and for the health of our vibrant agricultural tourist economy.
