URGENT! Crypto to jeopardize CLCPA - need S6486D passed in Senate!

Hi everyone,

I am writing with an urgent request for a show of support for S6486D, which would put in place a 2-year moratorium on crypto mining that is done in fossil fuel power plants and directs DEC to conduct an environmental review. The bill passed the Assembly, and has the votes to pass in the Senate, but Senate leadership is holding the bill up!

Please call and tweet Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Senator Gianaris and urge them to bring S6486D to the floor for a vote! Here’s a sample tweet.

This legislation is urgently needed because, should crypto mining expand in New York without any checks, it could consume as much energy as 750,000 homes – double the size of Buffalo. This would make meeting New York’s CLCPA goals nearly impossible to meet, especially our renewable energy goals.

This is New York’s new fracking moment! We can’t let the Senate cave to industry opposition spending! Opposition to the proposed moratorium has relied on misrepresentations of the bill from anti-regulation groups such as the Koch Brothers-funded Club for Growth. Opposition to S.6486-D has engaged in a $1.5 million campaign spreading misinformation about this legislation.

This is an all hands on deck moment – please lend your voice to this effort by calling and tweeting!

Thank you!

Best,
