Join us August 2nd-Oppose Landfill Expansion

On Wednesday, August 2nd at 11 am, Waste Connections is hosting a public meeting at Seneca Falls Community Center to discuss its plans to expand New York’s largest landfill. If permitted, Seneca Meadows (SMI), which already stands 30 stories tall, would grow another seven stories and continue to pollute our region until 2040.

This meeting is part of a requirement for SMI as a part of a Public Participation Plan (PPP), since the surrounding areas have been deemed disadvantaged communities by the DEC. Notice that they’re holding it in the middle of the week in the middle of the day, when most people are working. They were required to give interested parties at least 3 weeks notice, but didn’t quite do that either.

We suspect that this will be a “dog and pony show”, where the public will not have a chance to ask questions for the rest of the people to hear, but rather a series of tables with displays and lots of helpful enthusiastic landfill representatives around.

Before going in, we urge you all to join us outside the community center in Seneca Falls 35 Water St, Seneca Falls, NY 13148 at 10:30 am on August 2nd to let this Texas corporation know that we will not allow them to ruin the health of our economy, environment and neighbors without a fight. We must stand together to protect Seneca Falls.

Can you join us? Please RSVP by email to let us know. Thank you!
